Biographical Information about Robert Lee

Bob Lee serves as Professor in the College of Forest Resources at the University of Washington. He specializes in the sociology of natural resources, and has 30 years of experience in studying the relationships between human societies and natural environments. He holds a bachelors degree in forestry from the University of California at Berkeley, Masters of Forest Science from Yale University, and Ph.D. in Wildland Resource Science from the University of California at Berkeley. Graduate studies focused on sociology, anthropology, philosophy, and systems ecology.

His dissertation was entitled, “Human Spatial Behavior in Outdoor Recreation Settings.” He has worked for the U.S. Forest Service, forest products industry, and National Park Service, and taught at the University of California at Berkeley after receiving his doctorate. Dr. Lee has been honored by membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi, and was an invited panelist at President Clinton’s Forest Conference in Portland, Oregon in April 1993. He has served on numerous national committees, studied forestry institutions and forest based communities in Europe, Asia, and North America, and published over eighty papers and three books.
