Data_Quality_Information:
Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Air temperature data in this dataset are considered accurate within +/- 2 degrees Celsius according to the manufacturer specifications.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
All data in this dataset have undergone quality assurance checks. Raw data are graphed electronically by year and checked visually for outliers. Questionable values are compared to several days of data before and after the possible outlier. If necessary, the data also are compared to other sites. Inaccurate data are removed from the dataset; missing data appear in the dataset as blanks.

During a period of equipment changes, the hygrothermograph and Omega NOMAD instruments were operated concurrently over a 3-year period, 1998-2000. No significant statistical differences were observed when the data were compared using paired t-tests. Preliminary statistical comparisons between the NOMAD and the first HOBO temperature loggers showed the HOBO data were significantly higher than the NOMAD data, but the mean differences were less than the instrument accuracy provided by the manufacturer. Daily maximum data averaged 0.5 degrees Celsius higher for the HOBO logger compared to the NOMAD logger while daily minimum data averaged 1.5 degrees Celsius higher.
Completeness_Report:
Overall, annual data completeness averaged 97.3 percent. Missing data were due to equipment malfunctions. Percent completeness for the hygrothermograph data averaged 99.6 percent for 1952-1996. The NOMAD loggers averaged 89.0 percent completeness for 1998-2007 and the HOBO loggers (both models combined) averaged 98.0 percent completeness for 2008-2019. Data completeness for 2020-2021 was 100.0 percent.

Methodology:
Methodology_Type: Field
Methodology_Description:
From 1951 to mid-August 1997 air temperature was measured with a Belfort 594 hygrothermograph in conjunction with a set of maximum and minimum thermometers. Strip charts were changed weekly. Omega NOMAD model RH-32 temperature sensors with integrated data loggers were used from mid-August 1997 through 2007. Two identical instruments were rotated on a weekly basis at each station; data were downloaded weekly. From 2008 to 2017 air temperature was measured with Onset Computer HOBO Pro Series model H08-032-08 temperature sensors and data loggers which were downloaded monthly. All equipment was located in National Weather Service-type louvered instrument shelters through 2017. In January 2018 Onset Computer HOBO Pro version 2 model U23-001 temperature sensors and data loggers were installed in HOBO radiation shields (model RS1) at both sites. Use of the louvered shelters was discontinued. Data are downloaded monthly.
