San Gabriel Canyon OHV Area

The San Gabriel Canyon Off-Highway Vehicle Area (OHV) (brochure) is located 11 miles north of Azusa, CA, on Highway 39. Over 160 acres of rocky, sandy river bottom await users of 2-, 3-, and 4-wheeled OHVs. Reservations are required through San Gabriel Canyon OHV Area Vehicle Tickets, Angeles National Forest - Recreation.gov

NOTES: 

(1) 
The San Gabriel Canyon OHV area boundaries have changed temporarily due to a sediment removal project at the adjacent dam. See this map showing the current boundaries.

(2) The San Gabriel Canyon OHV Area will be open two hours later—from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.—on Sunday, September 25! All vehicles must exit the area by 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required before entering the OHV area. Please visit Recreation.gov - Camping, Cabins, RVs, Permits, Passes & More to buy your tickets prior to entering San Gabriel Canyon.

Operational Hours: The OHV and obstacle course area is open Saturdays, Sundays, and major holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day) at 8 a.m. ALL VISITORS MUST EXIT BY 4:30 p.m. Special closures may occur if unusually high water, wildfire, or capacity crowds occur. 
Reservations: San Gabriel Canyon OHV Area has implemented a timed ticket reservation system. Reservations are now required through San Gabriel Canyon Ohv Area Vehicle Tickets, Angeles National Forest - Recreation.gov.  Tickets are released for reservation on later than 12:00 pm each Thursday for the following weekend. Tickets may be purchased until 3 pm the day of the reservation. If you do not have a reservation you will be denied entry. If you have a reservation and your vehicle does not meet state requirements - current registration, approved spark arrestor or muffler system, and any other protective equipment required by the State of California for off-highway vehicle operation, you will be denied entry.
Fees: There are two types of tickets available - Primary Vehicle, and Secondary Vehicle. There's a fee of $8 for each primary vehicle and $5 for each secondary vehicle. Recreation.gov applies a $2 processing charge for each ticket purchase.  A Primary Vehicle is any vehicle driven into the OHV area under its own power. A secondary vehicle is any vehicle trailered or hauled into the OHV area by a primary vehicle. Tickets may be purchased until 3 pm the day of the reservation. Secondary vehicle tickets are only valid when purchased in conjunction with a primary vehicle ticket purchase. PLEASE PRINT OR SCREENSHOT YOUR PURCHASED TICKET BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME. THERE IS NO CELL PHONE SERVICE AVAILABLE AT THE SAN GABRIEL CANYON OHV AREA.

Restrictions:
  • All vehicles are subject to search prior to entry.
  • The possession of alcoholic beverages is pro­hibited at all times.
  • All ATVs and motorcycles must be equipped with approved spark arresters, proper­ly installed and maintained.
  • Approved muffler systems are required on all motorized vehicles.
  • All vehicles must be currently registered: green or red stickers (seasonally) for off-highway vehi­cles; regular state registration is required for street-legal 4 wheel drive vehicles.
  • Obey the 15 mph speed law when driving in the Staging Area and parking lot, or within 50 feet of any person or property.
  • The discharge of firearms or fireworks is pro­hibited at all times.
  • All vehicles must exit the area by posted hours.
  • The state Vehicle Code applies and is enforced.
  • Vehicles and swimming are not allowed in the San Gabriel Reservoir.

Passes: We will not be selling adventure passes from the OHV area at this time. San Gabriel Canyon OHV Area has implemented a timed ticket reservation system.
