Valley Forge Trail Camp (Hike-in Campground)

The road to this campground is closed to vehicle traffic due to road damage. No maintenance of facilities until the road reopens.

Know Fire & Other Restrictions Before You Go!: These conditions can affect your entire trip. For example, Extreme and Critical fire use restrictions mean no campfires and no portable cooking systems/stoves. Bring cold food and no S'mores. 

Be Bear Aware!: Bear safety is critical, for the safety of your group and/or you, as well as our bears. Help keep bears wild by following these tips. 


Overview of Site: 

  • 3,500-foot elevation
  • 6 trailside group campsites for hikers, bicyclists or equestrian use.
  • Closed to motor vehicles.
  • Campsites are first come - first served.
  • Campfire Permit is required, and may be obtained online or at any Forest Service office.
  • Stream water (treat before using).
  • However, water flow may be low or non-existent due to reduced rainfall.
  • Adventure Pass or America the Beautiful Pass required for vehicles parked at developed recreation sites.
  • Be Bear Aware.
  • When open, this site is not regularly maintained.

General Information

Directions: From Interstate 210 in La Canada, exit at Angeles Crest Hwy. (Hwy. 2) and drive north 14 miles to the Red Box Saddle. Hike in, following the signs, 3.5 miles to the campground.
