Know Fire & Other Restrictions Before You Go!: These conditions can affect your entire trip. For example, Extreme and Critical fire use restrictions mean no campfires and no portable cooking systems/stoves. Bring cold food and no S'mores. 

Be Bear Aware!: Bear safety is critical, for the safety of your group and/or you, as well as our bears. Help keep bears wild by following these tips. 

Overview of Site: 

Hike-in only. The best access to walk or bike into the Bear Campground is to park on the side of the road in the turnout at 7N19 (Atmore Meadows Road), which is approximately 5 miles from the campground. This area is very popular for hunting season with very little to no shade.

Amenities: Seven campsites each with designated picnic table and campfire rings. No toilets. No trash facilities available. Please help by taking your trash out with you. Pack In-Pack Out. No piped water available. (Please bring enough water for cooking, cleaning, drinking, and extinguishing campfires.)

Fees: Camping - $12 (cash or check only) fee covers one vehicle (8 people per site) per night, $5 for extra vehicle. 50% off discounts given for Senior or Access America the Beautiful Pass holders. (Adventure Pass not accepted in-lieu of camping fee.)

General Information

Directions:

From Interstate 5 in Castaic, turn northeast on Lake Hughes Rd. and drive 27 miles to the town of Lake Hughes. Turn left on Pine Canyon Rd. and drive to Sawmill Mountain (northwest) on Sawmill Mountain-Liebre Ridge Rd. (Forest Service Road 7N23) and drive about 10 miles to the campground.
