What to Expect

On a typical weekend, visitors can find the singletrack Sunset Trail populated with mountain bikers and hikers searching for a casual ride or hike that offers a mix of scenic views, switchbacks, and rocky sections to keep the adventure interesting.

For a shorter hike, visitors can begin on the Lower Sunset Trail at Millard Campground and walk .75 miles to Mt. Lowe Trail (2N50.2) near Chaney Trail (road). From there, the trail hugs the mountain face entertaining hikers with views of Millard Falls. Once at the junction, guests can choose their adventure by either heading left on the Millard Canyon Trail towards Dawn Mine or continue on the Sunset Ridge trail. The trail can be combined with the Dawn Mine Trail 12W13 and Millard Canyon Trail for a nice loop.

Poison oak is very present in the area. Furthermore, we recommend bringing extra water and trail snacks as the hike is mostly unshaded.
