Byers Peak Trailhead
The Byers Peak Trailhead provides access to the Byers Peak Wilderness.
This is an unconventional trailhead in that hikers must travel over 1.8 miles of road before arriving at the trail to the peak. Visitors are welcome to bicycle this first 1.8 miles and leave the bicycle at the provided bike rack.
Note: The access road to this trailhead is closed to motor vehicles between Nov. 15 and June 15.

Length: Byers Peak Trailhead at parking area gate to the peak - 4.4. miles. (NOTE: Bicycles can ride the first 1.9 miles of this trail to the bike rack at the end of the Forest Service Road. This leaves an additional 2.5 miles to the peak.) Distances are one way.
Elevation: 10,780 feet at the trailhead; 12,804 feet at Byers Peak
Trail Description: The trail starts at the gate and follows the road to the Byers Peak Trailhead of the single track hiking trail. This section of the trail can be used by both hikers and mountain bikers. At the single track hiking trailhead, there is a spot to leave mountain bikes. From here to the top of Byers Peak, the trail is approximately 1.8 miles and is steep, with some bouldering required. The steep sub-alpine slopes do not provide any camping and hikers should be prepared for a stiff wind at tree line that generally blows atop the mountain. There is good fishing in the few small lakes just below Byers Peak although they require some strenuous cross-country hiking. Remnants of snow fields usually remain along the trail until the first or second week of July.
