Lake Evelyn Trailhead

The Lake Evelyn Trailhead provides access to several trails in the Byers Peak Wilderness. There are no facilities.

Note: The access road to this trailhead is closed to motor vehicles between Nov. 15 and June 15. A 4-wheel drive, high clearance vehicle is recommend to reach this trailhead.

Usage: Medium
Restrictions: Wilderness regulations apply in the Byers Peak Wilderness:
  • Mechanized/motorized travel is prohibited.
  • Do not camp or build campfires within 100 feet of developed trails or bodies of water.
  • Pets must be under control at all times.
  • Group size is limited to 12 people and/or livestock. 
  • Practice Leave No Trace principles.
Unless seasonal restrictions are in effect, campfires must be attended at all times and cold to the touch with the bare hand before being abandoned. Collection of dead and down wood is allowed; do not break branches from standing trees for firewood.

General Information

Directions: From Parshall, CO take County Road 3 to Horseshoe Campground and turn left on the Keyser Road (Forest Road 139). Take a right on Forest Road 136 to the trailhead. This last four miles is a rough road. High clearance recommended.
