Wapiti Winter Trail

The Wapiti Trail intersects the Sourdough Trail at two locations north of Brainard Gateway Trailhead. It offers a nice loop opportunity for those exploring the Sourdough Trail from either Red Rock Trailhead or the Beaver Reservoir Trailhead. There is no clear footbed for hiking or biking; the trail is constructed for winter uses.

Diverging from the Sourdough Trail 0.4 miles north of the South Saint Vrain Creek and Trail, the Wapiti Trail turns west at the base of an aspen-covered slope, soon swinging north through a minor saddle. From here, Wapiti Trail continues north down a broad drainage, hooking back to the east and south around the north end of the ridge along the 9,400-foot contour.

Wapiti trail reconnects with Sourdough Trail off the end of a major switchback. It is another two miles north on Sourdough Trail from here to Beaver Reservoir Trailhead.
