Meeker Park Overflow Campground

Area Status: Closed
This area is Closed

A small road with a gorgeous view of a mountain.

There are 29 first-come, first-served campsites that allow tents, campers, trailers, and RVs. Sites are best for tent camping due to unpaved roads, steep hills and short pull-ins. Picnic tables, fire rings, and portable toilets are provided. 14-day stay limit. There is no drinking water, electricity, hook-ups, dump stations, or showers. All campsites with a tent pad have a bear locker. A maximum of eight people are allowed per site.

Although not a full-service campground, Meeker Park Overflow Campground tends to fill to capacity on weekends due to its proximity to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Longs Peak Trailhead is approximately two miles north of the campground, and the Wild Basin Trailhead is about two miles to the south.

Campground Camping

Meeker Park Overflow is less developed than most other campgrounds on Boulder Ranger District. It lacks drinking water and permanent bathroom facilities (porta-johns are provided). It is located about two miles south of Rocky Mountain National Park's Longs Peak Trailhead, and is often used by people intending to rise early (well before dawn) for an ascent on Longs Peak. Due to its reduced services, Meeker Park Overflow is often one of the last campgrounds to fill on summer weekends. Unpaved roads, steep hills and short camping spurs make Meeker Park Overflow less suitable for trailers and RV's than other developed campgrounds in the area.
Fire InformationCampfires are generally allowed, unless seasonal restrictions are in effect. Visitors may gather dead and down wood for burning while visiting the National Forest. Campgrounds with hosts offer firewood for sale; contact the campground host.
