Byers Peak Trailhead

Trailhead provides access to Byers Peak Wilderness via Byers Peak Trail. This is an unconventional trailhead in that hikers must travel over 1.8 miles of road before arriving at the trail to the peak. Visitors are welcome to bicycle this first 1.8 miles and leave the bicycle at the provided bike rack.

Restrictions: Wilderness regulations apply in Byers Peak Wilderness including:
  • Mechanized/motorized travel is prohibited.
  • Portions of the trail are located within the Fraser Experimental Forest where dispersed camping is prohibited.
  • Do not camp or build campfires within 100 feet of developed trails or bodies of water.
  • Pets must be under control at all times.
  • Group size is limited to 12 people and/or livestock.

General Information

Directions: From Fraser, CO, take County Road 73 SW to Forest Road 160 into the Fraser Experimental Forest. Turn right on Forest Road 164 and follow to the trailhead.
