West Lake Campground

Area Status: Closed

West Lake Campground is located 48 miles northwest of Fort Collins, Colorado, near the village of Red Feather Lakes. The campground is adjacent to West Lake in a mountainous, ponderosa pine forest. There are 36 sites; sites 1-5 are walk-in tent sites. All have electricity except for the walk-in sites. Each site has a picnic table, fire grate and tent pad. All campsites with a tent pad have a bear locker. This is a very popular, high-use area. Popular activities include fishing and hiking in the woods around the campground.

Reservations: Most campsites are reservable mid spring through mid September. Make your reservations at www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777 as early as 6 months in advance and at least 4 days prior to arrival.
Fees: Check detailed fee information on www.recreation.gov or see general fees on our campground table. Campsite fee includes use of the day-use area.
Usage: Heavy
Restrictions: A single site may hold up to eight people. Double sites will accommodate more people. Tents must fit on the pads provided. RVs, trailers or other vehicles must fit on the parking spur because driving or parking off road is not permitted. The parking length ranges from 35 to 80 feet.

General Information

Directions: Drive 21 miles north of Fort Collins on U.S. Highway 287.Turn left (west) on to the Red Feather Lakes Road (County Road 74E). Drive approximately 21 miles; the campground entrance is on the right.

Campground Camping

A few first-come, first-served tent sites are perched above the West Lake shoreline and away from the RV campers. RV campers will find ample space in campsites stretched out just above and along the lake's edge. First-come, first-served RV sites go quickly, even during the week.

Reservation Info Reservations are accepted at most campsites. Sites can be reserved as early as 180 days in advance up to a minimum of four days prior to arrival. Reservations may be made by calling 1-877-444-6777 or online at www.recreation.gov.
Fire Information Unlesss fire resrictions are in effect, campfires are allowed in the fire ring provided, dead and down wood may be gathered from the forest if available. Wood may also be purchased from the hosts.
