Red Canyon Campground is located in a grassy meadow high above Flaming Gorge Reservoir, along Red Canyon Road. Visitors enjoy exploring the Red Canyon Rim Trail and canoeing and fishing at Greens Lake. The campground lies close to beautiful cliffs overlooking Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Lodgepole and ponderosa pines dot the campground, providing limited shade. Summer wildflowers are plentiful.

Nearby Greens Lake offers great canoeing and fishing for rainbow and brook trout. Red Canyon Lodge sits on the shore. Canoe and bike rentals, horseback riding, a restaurant and gift shop are available. Red Canyon Rim Trail, for hiking and biking, begins at the nearby visitor center, which offers interpretive displays and area information.

  • Trash collection is provided.
  • No electric, water or sewer hookups are available.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Help prevent the spread of tree-killing pests in our national forests by obtaining firewood near your destination and burning it on-site. Firewood is available to purchase at the Greens Lake Campground from the host.
  • Dump stations are located at Antelope Flat, Deer Run, Firefighters, and Lodgepole. A fee is charged.
  • Showers are located at Deer Run and Mustang Ridge for campers with proof of camping registration.

Nearby Attractions:

  • Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is known not only for its beautiful red cliffs, but also for its world-class fishing for lake, brown and rainbow trout. Boating, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and scuba diving are popular activities on the reservoir.
  • Flaming Gorge Dam offers guided tours of the working hydroelectric plant and the dam itself; The adjacent visitor center contains area history exhibits.
  • The Green River below the dam provides spectacular rafting opportunities. A trip down the river offers unique geology, outlaw history and Native American rock art.

Reservations: This campgrounds has some first come, first serve basis. Fees $20/night for single unit. The single site fee covers the cost of 1 vehicle. Each single site's maximum capacity is 2 vehicles. There will be an extra vehicle fee for the second vehicle collected on site. 2 vehicles = 1 sleeping unit (trailer, pop-up, pickup camper, RV, etc) + 1 passenger vehicle or 2 passenger vehicles. There is not room for 2 sleeping units.

Located on Forest Road 095/Red Canyon Road off Highway 44 between Vernal, Utah and Manila, Utah; approximately 40 miles north of Vernal, UT on Highway 191, 80 miles south of Rock Springs, Wyoming on Highway 191, 80 miles south of Green River, Wyoming on Highway 530, and 205 miles east of Salt Lake City, Utah.


General Notes:

Please note that there are multiple Red Canyon areas. This Red Canyon is on the Ashley National Forest near Flaming Gorge and Vernal in northeastern Utah. It is not the Red Canyon on the Dixie National Forest near St. George in southwestern Utah, which does not accept reservations.
