The Limber Flag Yurt is located approximately 20 air miles north of Vernal, Utah and provides year-round primitive lodging for Forest visitors.

This facility is approximately 314 ft. (<20 ft. diameter) and has limited amenities. There is no indoor plumbing/running water and no power at this site. The amenities provided include a heavy-duty propane camp stove for cooking, a wood burning stove for heat, an outdoor vault toilet, a folding table, and folding chairs. There is a basic assortment of pots, pans, dishes, and utensils, but bringing your own supplies is encouraged. There is one portable propane lantern (Coleman) that requires visitors to bring extra propane bottles and mantles. Forest Service provides propane for the camp/cook stove and wood for the cast iron/heat stove. There are two (double-size) bunk beds in the yurt that will sleep eight people. No linens, bedding, or pillows are provided. There is ample room for tent camping outside. The maximum capacity of overnight visitors at the yurt complex is ten people.

During the non-snow season (approximately June 01 to October 31) visitors can usually drive to Limber Flag Yurt. A high-clearance vehicle equipped with four-wheel drive (4WD) is required to access the yurt. Road access is not suitable for RV or travel trailers; therefore no RV or travel trailers are allowed. During the snow season (approximately December 1 to April 01) nonmotorized travel is required to access the yurt. Winter use of the yurt requires cross-country ski or snowshoe access. Snowmobiles are NOT allowed on the trail to Limber Flag Yurt.

No animals allowed inside the Yurt. The site is closed to the public during wet periods with muddy conditions in the fall and spring (November and April 01 to June 01). Reservation dates are subject to change.

General Information


Summer Directions from Vernal, UT: Take U.S.Highway 191 (Vernal Ave.) north from Vernal for approximately 24.4 miles to the Diamond Mountain turnoff. Turn right (east) onto the Diamond Mountain Road (Forest Road #048). Follow Diamond Mountain Road (Forest Road #048) for approximately 2.3 miles. Turn left (north) onto the Pot Holes Road (Forest Road #255). Follow Potholes Road (Forest Road #255) for approximately 1.6 miles. Turn left (northwest) and follow Forest Road #254. After approximately 1.5 miles Forest Road #254 will merge into the winter ski trail. Follow the blue diamonds along the trail and turn right (east) after approximately 150 yards. The road will curve around to clearing with the yurt visible about 100 yards away.

Winter Directions from Vernal, UT: Take U.S.Highway 191 (Vernal Ave.) north from Vernal for approximately 24.6 miles to the Limber Flag Yurt Trailhead. Turn right (east) at the Limber Flag Yurt trailhead. This is a paved rest area along State Highway 191. Take Forest Trail #1170 for 3 miles to Limber Flag Yurt. Follow the blue diamonds along the trail. It takes approximately 2 hours to ski to the yurt. The trail is somewhat difficult with sections winding through tress and a couple of hill climbs exceeding 10% slope.Non-motorized Travel only to Limber Flag Yurt During Winter Follow the mileage indications above and look for signs on theground when traveling toLimber Flag Yurt. Leave with plenty of time to arrive at the Yurt before dark.
