General Information

Directions:

From the north - Take Forest Road 34 south to Forest Road 300 and then turn right (west); proceed 4 miles to Forest Road 89 and then turn right (north); drive 3 miles to Bear Canyon Lake entrance road.

From the south - Take state highway 260 to Forest Road 300; drive 12 miles along rim to Forest Road 89; drive 3 miles north on Forest Road 89 to Bear Canyon Lake entrance road.

Day Hiking

A trail along the west bank of Bear Canyon Lake can provide a few hours or a full day of scenic lakeside fishing, viewing, or hiking. The trail extends from the dam to the head of the lake with 2 access trails down to the lake from the parking lots. These trails to the lake are about 1/4 mile in length. Hiking up to the head of the lake (about a mile) offers spectacular views and a beautiful marsh-meadow and aspen grove. Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir are the predominate vegetation around most of the lake.
