Apache Trout CG

This campground is one of seven in the Rim Lakes Recreation Area. It is composed of four loops in alternating meadow and wooded areas. It is large and rambling and offers several camping experiences and environments from grassy meadows to a rocky forest. For viewing there are many birds, squirrels, deer, and elk. Most sites are well separated for privacy. Firewood is available. Aspen Campground has paved roads. For reservations call 1-877-444-6777 or visit www.recreation.gov. No trailers over 32 feet. Closed in winter. Electric boat motors only.

General Information


Just off Woods Canyon Lake, approximately 4 miles north of State Highway 260 at mile marker 282, located directly across from the Rim Visitor Information Station or 25 miles west of Heber, Arizona.

  • 14-day stay limit
  • No waste water dumping on ground
  • Deer, skunks and bear are common campground visitors.
  • Be prepared for rain, often heavy through July and August.
  • Campground is located at high elevation. Be prepared for cool to cold night time temperatures.  
  • Fishing and boating on Woods Canyon Lake. Electric boat motors only.
  • Camping and fishing supplies available from Woods Canyon Store.
  • Interpretative nature trail at the north end of lake.
