Douglas Creek Cabin

This cabin is located in the north end of the Flint Creek Range adjacent to Douglas Creek. It sits in a grassy meadow, surrounded by mature evergreen trees. Built in the 1960s by the Forest Service this cabin was used as an administrative cabin for crews working in the area before becoming a rental cabin for public use.

General Information

Directions:

Douglas Creek Cabin is about 10 miles southeast of Hall, Montana. Take MT HWY 1 south from Hall about 3 miles to Douglas Creek. Take Forest Road #707 and continue approximately 7.5 miles to the cabin. Maps may be purchased at the Pintler Ranger District in Philipsburg, MT.

This cabin is in a very remote location and access is limited by weather conditions. 4-wheel drive and high clearance is necessary year-round. Depending on snow conditions vehicles access is limited and visitors will need to plan on skiing or snowmobiling 3 or more miles to the cabin. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety.  


General Notes:

Douglas Creek Cabin is a one-room cabin with two sets of bunk beds that sleeps four people. It has a table and chairs and minimal cooking utensils and dishes. There is a wood stove for heating Firewood is provided but cannot be guaranteed.  There is no electricity or water available at this cabin. Guests need to bring their own water for cooking, cleaning and drinking. We also recommend bringing bedding, pillows, towels, soap, toilet paper, axe/chainsaw, garbage bags and any other special cooking equipment you require.

There is an outhouse with vault toilet located just behind the cabin.

Cell phone service is very spotty in this area and is not guaranteed. Plan accordingly and let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return.

Please remember guests must pack out all trash and food and clean the cabin before leaving.

There are a variety of recreational activities available around Douglas Creek Cabin including hiking, hunting, and winter sports. A big game winter range and elk caving grounds are nearby, offering renters great wildlife viewing potential. The area is also home to many species of birds. There are various opportunities for hiking in the area, but there are no designated trails near the cabin. This cabin serves as a great base camp during the hunting season. Winter enthusiasts enjoy snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the surrounding areas during the winter months. Various weather conditions can increase avalanche danger and visitors are encouraged to carry proper backcountry safety equipment.
