Nez Perce NHT (Nee-Me-Poo) Trail # 406

  

The Nez Perce National Historic Trail (Nee-Me-Poo) trail is 3.1 miles long. It begins at Road 10001 and ends at Beaverhead -Deerlodge National Forest Road 1260 (Junction of CDT #9).

This trail follows a portion of the original Nez Perce route.  The trailhead is east of Highway 93 near the turnoff to Indian Trees Campground.  The trail gives the ambitions hiker an idea of the forbidding terrain.

Scarred trees and traces of wagon ruts are still visible.  Clark (Lewis and Clark expedition) and his party used this trail in 1806 on their return east.  

The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking, Horseback Riding.

Directions: From Sula, MT head south 6 miles on Highway 93. Turn east (left) on to forest road #10001 and follow for approximately 1/4 mile.
