Capri Lake Trail # 400

The Capri Lake Trail #400 is 1.0 miles long. It begins at Trail #673 and ends at Capri Lake. This trail is a short, pleasant ride from the trail junction at Overwhich Falls to Pass and Capri Lakes. The grade ranges from 3% to 6%. The trail climbs a short ridge, then follows a sidehill down to the lake.

Tree species include lodgepole and whitebark pine, spruce, and subalpine fir. Beargrass and grouse whortleberry dominate the ground cover along the trail until Capril Lake is reached. At the lake meadow grasses are abundant.

Wildlife in the area includes moose, elk, deer, grouse, and other small birds and animals. Of the two small lakes, Capri and Pass, only Capri supports a population of trout. Pass lake is too shallow to support fish. Capril lake is approximately 4 acres in size.

Along the first 1/2 mile of the trail, there are numerous small excavations. These are evidence of exploration for copper that had gone on in the area. Larger excavations can be seen from the Overwhich junction looking to the south. Overwhich Falls can be seen at the bottom of the canyon when standing at the junction.  Several dispersed campsites exist between the junction and Capri Lake.

The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking, Horseback Riding, and Motorcycle Trail Riding
