Andrews Creek Trail # 178

  

The Andrews Creek trail is a ridgeline trail approximately 2 miles long. It begins at Road 728 and ends at Warm Springs Ridge Trail # 177. This trail provides access into the Warmsprings Backcountry area. The grade ranges from 2-15%.  

Ground vegetation includes beargrass, snowberry, Oregon Grape, pine grass and other assorted species.

There are excellent views of the Sula Basin and Saddle Mountain. The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking, Horseback Riding, Motorbikes.

General Information

Directions:

From Sula, MT head south 1.8 miles on Highway 93. Turn west (right) onto Andrews Creek Rd. (#728). Follow approximately 7 miles to the trail.


General Notes:

This trail provides access into the Warm Springs Backcountry area.  The grade ranges from 2 to 15 percent.  This is a ridgeline trail.  Ground vegetation includes beargrass, snowberry, Oregon grape, pine grass, and other assorted species.  The tree species consist of Douglas-fir, whitebark pine, and lodgepole pine.  Following the trail as it heads south, one passes through open meadows, forested areas, and along the base of rockslides.  There are excellent views of the Sula Basin and Saddle Mountain.  Wildlife includes pine squirrels, grouse, and various other small animals.  Elk sign is evident but not usually seen in the summer months.  The average hiking time from the trailhead to trail junction is about 2 hours.

Foot, horseback and motorbike traffic can be expected.  Remember to carry water as no water can be found along the trail.
