Old Baldy Trailhead (Trail #66)

Meandering through stands of quaking aspen, paper birch, and ponderosa pine, colors are beautiful this time of year on the Old Baldy trail. Located approximately 13 miles south of Spearfish, SD off of FSR 134, the Old Baldy Trail is a 5.7 mile loop with a 0.7 mile spur trail to the summit of Old Baldy Mountain.

From the top, one can see Crow Peak to the north, Ragged Top and Terry Peak to the east and Cement Ridge to the west. The Old Baldy Trail is maintained for hikers, horseback riders, bicyclists and cross-country skiers. No motorized use is allowed.

Mountain Biking

To access the Old Baldy Trail from Spearfish, travel south on FSR 134 for approximately 13 miles to the trailhead which is on the west side of the road. From Savoy, travel south on FSR 222 for 6 miles to the intersection with FSR 134, and travel north on FSR 134 for approximately 1.1 miles to the trailhead. The Old Baldy Trail is maintained for hikers, horseback riders, bicyclists and cross-country skiers. No motorized use is allowed. Difficulty Rating: Moderate.
