Long Valley Picnic Area

Located in Spearfish Canyon, along Spearfish Creek, Long Valley Picnic Area is a beautiful spot for a picnic. Five picnic sites are available for day-use only (area is closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.). Please remember to pack your trash out at the end of your picnic.

This area underwent renovations in 2014 with funding provided by the Federal Highways National Scenic Byway Grant program and the Lawrence County Resource Advisory Committee. North Zone Engineering designed several features that are accessible to people with disabilities including, aggregate picnic tables and an accessible boardwalk near the creek. The picnic area also offers pedestal grills, a fishing pier, walking trails, a natural rock fishing area with a rock stairway to the creek, a wading area which is protected from the creek current, and a vehicle turn-around.

Interpretive signs along the boardwalk display information about the geology and history of the scenic canyon area.

Restroom facilities are available.
