Trail Highlights:

  • The trail begins by climbing up onto an open hillside above the road along the power lines.  It then heads into aspen forest and winds back and forth, climbing up towards Cream Puff.
  • The trail eventually pops out into an open saddle, looking down on a small hunting camp that operates mostly during the fall. The trail turns here and climbs the open ridge up to the summit of Cream Puff Peak.

Options:

  • There are no loop options or connections off of this trail.  It is an out and back to the summit.

Important Information

  • All of the Cow Creek Trail  is located within the Gros Ventre Wilderness and is not open to motorized or mechanized vehicles.  The wilderness boundary exists just past the kiosk and is signed.  Please respect the wilderness and practice leave no trace ethics.
  • This trail is located on USGS quad maps for Bull Cr, 7.5 minute.
  • Always check the posted information at the kiosks for maps, updated material on forest regulations and closures.

General Information

Directions:

 

From Jackson, head south on US 189 towards Hoback Junction. At Hoback, go left towards Pinedale and continue for several miles.  Go past Camp Creek Inn and into the canyon.  The road winds through the canyon and crosses the Hoback River.  Just past the bridge, you will see a dirt road on your left.  Turn left here and park in the parking area, the trail takes off from the left side of the road at a small wilderness sign.  If you reach the turnoff for Granite Cr Road you went too far.
