Ditch Cabin to Sawmill Park Trail

The Sawmill Park trail is 4.0 miles long. The trail is open for the following uses: Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing and Hiking and Horseback Riding in the summer.

 

Going east through Red River, take the right fork at the east end of town (State Highway (SH) 578. Upper Red River Valley Rd.). Go south on State Highway 578 until the pavement ends (approximately 6-1/2 miles). There is room here for several cars to park, the trail begins here. Ski across the bridge and head south on Forest Road (FR) 58A. You will cross some private land over which there is not a pubic right-of-way. Please be respectful of the property owners by staying on the road. Continue on trail #56 to the intersection of trail #55. Go left and proceed to Sawmill Park. Sawmill Park begins approximately two miles from the intersection of trails 55 and 56. At the south end of Sawmill Park, there is an old, very steep trail which winds its way up to Taos Cone.
