Buffalo Mountain ATV Trail (BMATV), FTR #29 is a 13-mile linear ATV trail located along the ridgeline of Buffalo Mountain in Unicoi County.

The trail is close to metropolitan Johnson City and is easily accessed by TN 67 and TN 81 (an interchange of I-26).

A fee of $5.00 per haul vehicle is required at Horse Cove Gap trailhead, the only legal access to the trail.  The area is also popular with mountain bikers who use the trail and forest roads.

Current Conditions: Trail is operating normally, please observe all State and Federal covid-19 guidelines when recreating on the Cherokee National Forest.
Operational Hours: BMATV trail in now open.  This is a day use area, open sunrise to sunset.
Fees A fee of $5.00 is required for each vehicle.
Open Season: 5/15/2020 - 1/4/2021
Restrictions: Always wear a helmet and eye protection. Stay on the designated trail.  Off trail and other unauthorized OHV use is not allowed.
