Russian River Campground


Area Status: Closed

The Russian River Campgrpound is closed due to Spruce Bark Beetle mitigation. The Forest Service anticipates the first day for reservation arrivals will be June 5, 2023, prior to the opening of the sockeye salmon sport fishing season. The campground may open earlier on a first come first serve basis. 

A large campground with 83 sites, paved roads and spurs, and no hookups. $23 (single)/$33 (double). A non-refundable service fee will be added to each reservation by Recreation.gov. Amenities include - water, flush toilets, tables, fire pits and dumpsters.

ATTENTION: Campers Using Tents or Soft-sided Trailers - Be Bear Aware

Bears have damaged tents and soft-sided trailers within Russian River Campground in the past. For your safety and the safety of others, please store all attractants - food, garbage, hygiene items, and anything with a smell - in a hard-sided vehicle or in the storage locker provided on site. Be aware and advised that bear incidents within the Campground may trigger immediate prohibitions on tent and soft-sided vehicle camping through the issuance of an Emergency Order signed by the Forest Supervisor, which will require campers using these types of shelters to vacate the Campground.

Current Conditions: Beginning Aug. 15, 2022, the Russian River Campground Road will undergo construction to redo a one-mile stretch of the road surface and reinforce portions of the hillside along the bank of the Kenai River. During the closure, all vehicle and pedestrian access will be restricted and campground reservations on Recreation.gov will be unavailable.
Reservations: Reservations are made through Recreation.gov (1-877-444-6777) and recommended for summer camping. Fees are charged during the summer season. Reservations may be made up to180 days prior to your desired arrival date in the summer season (Memorial Day through Labor Day in September).

Road Cycling

Bike up the scenic Seward Highway to the famous fishing rivers.

Campground Camping

The Russian River campground is on the reservation system. For reservations, please visit the National Recreation Reservation Service website at  www.recreation.gov. There is a three-day limit stay at the campground.

Bear Country! All food must be stored properly in your vehicle or lockers provided in the campground.
