Tenderfoot Creek Campground


Area Status: Closed

Tenderfoot campground and adjacent areas are closed to all public use from November 29, 2022 until April 1, 2023. Wide-scale tree mortality is present in the area and poses an immediate hazard to the health and safety of forest users in the area. Tree fallers and heavy equipment will be in use at the campground and adjacent lands. Non-motorized winter recreation activities normally take place at Tenderfoot Campground and necessitate this area closure to ensure public safety. View the closure order.

The Closure Area Boundary begins on Tenderfoot Campground Road (RTE#31010270) at the gated entrance to Tenderfoot Campground, from there generally northwest to the high-water line of Summit Lake, then generally southwest turning southeast following the lake shore for approximately 2200 feet, then northeast approximately 1000 feet to Tenderfoot Creek, then north to the gated entrance of Tenderfoot Campground.

eservations are made though Recreation.gov (1-877-444-6777) and recommended for summer camping. Fees are charged during the summer season. Reservations may be made up to180 days prior to your desired arrival date in the summer season (Memorial Day through Labor Day in September).

This campground has 35 sites and no hookups.

Water, toilets, tables, dumpsters, fire pits, boat ramp.  $23 a night. A non-refundable service fee will be added to each reservation by Recreation.gov

Directions:

Travel south on the Seward Highway from Anchorage. The campground is located at Milepost 46, near Summit Lake Lodge.

A spruce/hemlock forest on Summit Lake.

Bear Country! All food must be stored properly in your vehicle or lockers provided in the campground. Be bear aware!

There is a user pay station at the entrance. The maximum stay is 14 nights.

River and Stream Fishing

In addition to River and Stream fishing in the area, lake fishing is also an option. Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout fishing.
