A 16-foot A-frame with loft that sleep 6.

Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, an oil stove for heat, and an outhouse.

Not Included:

Running water, electricity, mattress or bedding, cooking utensils, cook stove. Propane may be available onsite from June through August. Winter users need to supply their own propane. The hook up at cabin for propane is a 3/4 in. male pipe thread, (standard BBQ grill hook up).

Reservations: Cabin reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance by calling 1-877-444-6777 (518-885-3639 overseas)  or visiting www.recreation.gov. Cabin reservations (check-in  & check out time) are from noon to noon.

Fees Per night prices range from $50-75 (2018 prices) depending on season. Cabin fees are based on non-peak/peak season. Seasons vary by cabin. A non-refundable service fee will be added to each reservation by Recreation.gov.
Restrictions: Cabin is on a bluff 12 feet above ocean, access by steps.   Climate is usually wet, windy, and cool.  Inclement weather may cause an unexpected extension of the trip. Bring extra supplies to last 2-5 days.Bringing a personal cooking stove is recommended. Drinking water is sometimes difficult to obtain near cabin. Boil surface water for 5 minutes before drinking. Remember to pack out your trash.  Enjoy, but do not disturb the archaeological and historic sites in the vicinity.  You can contact a U.S. Forest Service office for more detailed information on safety precautions.

General Information

Directions:

On the southwest shore near the head of Pigot Bay, northeast of Whittier.  Accessible via floatplane.

(40 minutes from Anchorage or 60 minutes from Cordova) or via boat (18 miles from Whittier).  Refer to USGS map, Seward D4.


General Notes:

Pigot Bay is steep-sided, but at its head is a wide outwash valley.  The area around the cabin is heavily forested.

The topography is very rugged limiting hiking in the area.  A small boat will greatly increase access and exploring potentials in this bay  and along the coast of Port Wells.  (Boats are not provided by the Forest Service)

Cabin Rentals

A visit to this cabin offers possibilities for wildlife

viewing, photography, exploring, hunting, and fishing. The topography is very rugged limiting hiking in the area.  A small boat will greatly increase access and exploring potentials in this bay  and along the coast of Port Wells.  (Boats are not provided by the Forest Service).  Mountain goats can sometimes be seen on the surrounding cliffs.
