Beaver Lake Recreation Area
If you are looking for a campground to explore the North Country National Scenic Trail or a rustic fishing-getaway with a family atmosphere, try the Beaver Lake Recreation Area 15 miles west of Mellen, Wis.
This campground is located on a 35-acre trout, panfish and largemouth bass. There are 10 campsites. Campsites include a parking spur, fire ring, picnic table, and tent pad. Drinking water and vault toilets are available.
The area includes a boat launch located one-half mile from the campground. A spur trail connects the campground to the North Country National Scenic Trail, one of the most popular trail systems in the area, that includes hiking and snowshoeing during the winter months. There is no day use or long term parking for visitors entering the North Country National Scenic Trail within the campground.
The Beaver Lake Recreation Area is near popular local site-seeing spots St. Peter’s Dome and Morgan Falls. It’s a short hike or drive from the Marengo Semi-primitive Non-motorized area. In addition, there are mountain bike opportunities on the CAMBA trail system and Rock Lake National Recreation Trail.
So, if you like to camp, boat, fish, and hike, then the Beaver Lake recreation area is the place for you, located just 15 minutes northwest of Mellen. Don’t forget your canine friends. Beaver Lake is one of our dog friendly Recreation Areas. Dogs must be well behaved and leashed at all times.

Reservations: | Campsites 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10 can be reserved. The reservation system provides visitors the opportunity to reserve their favorite spot during specific times, ensuring a place to stay, which will be beneficial to local users as well as users traveling from afar. Sites can be reserved at www.recreation.gov or by calling Recreation.gov at 1-877-444-6777 or TDD 1-877-833-6777. The campground will still have first come first served sites available for those who prefer a more spontaneous adventure. |

General Information
Directions:From Mellen drive west on County Highway GG 8 miles to FR 187 (Mineral Lake Rd.). Turn right (north) on FR 187 and follow it 3 miles to the T intersection with FR 198 (Pine Stump Corner). Continue straight (west) on FR 198 for 1.7 miles and turn right at the campground sign.
From Hayward drive east on Highway 77 for 33 miles to Clam Lake. Turn left (northwest) on Highway GG and in 0.1 miles turn right (north) on GG and drive 11.3 miles to FR 187 (Mineral Lake Rd). Turn left (north) on FR 187 and follow it 3 miles to the T intersection with FR 198 (Pine Stump Corner). Continue straight (west) on FR 198 for 1.7 miles and turn right at the campground sign.

Lake and Pond Fishing
Beaver Lake is a 35-acre seepage lake 10 feet deep that has brown and brook trout, channel catfish, and perch. The boat launch is located one-half mile from the campground on Forest Road 198.

Boating - Motorized
Motorized boats are allowed on this small 35 acre lake however, this shallow lake has a maximum depth of 10 feet.
Boating - Non-Motorized
Smaller motor boats, canoes and kayaks are more suitable for this small 35-acre lake. There is a boat landing located one-half mile from the campground on Forest Road 198. There is no beach.
