Located within the Chattahoochee Wildlife Management Area and veiled by the Mark Trail Wilderness. This 13-site developed campground is as close as it gets to a dispersed camping experience with amenities. This clandestine campground is best known for its plethora of opportunities in camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, and simply basking in the light of the natural world. Low Gap is another one of our campgrounds located only a few miles from Georgia's much loved vacation destination, the alpine village of Helen, Georgia. A trip to this campground is sure to make memories, so be sure to pack a camera and take some home with you on film!

Restrictions:
  • The maximum stay is 14 days.
  • Due to narrow, curving, and steep roads to and from this area, recommended size of RV is 28 ft.
  • No UTV's, ATV's or Golf Carts allowed in the campgrounds or surrounding Forest Service Roads.
  • After the camper(s) has accumulated 14 days within any 30-day time period, the camper(s) must leave that area/campground and move from Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest land for 30 days before returning for another stay.
Closest Towns: The nearest town is approximately 5.7 miles, or 20 minutes, to Helen, GA.  Helen is more than just a full service community with restaurants, holtels, and grocery stores. Designed as an Alpine village, it's a destination point for shopping, tubing on the Chatthooochee River in the summer, and  Octoberfest in the fall. .
Water: A hand-pump well provides drinking water.
Restroom: 1 Chemical toilet facility
Passes: The Interagency Senior and Access Passes and the Golden Age and Access Passports are accepted. These passes entitle the pass holder to a 50% discount on camping fees. Please be sure to write you pass number on the fee envelope to receive credit for the discount.

Information Center: Please contact the Chattooga River Ranger District office at 706-754-6221or sm.fs.crrd@usda.gov. The onloading/offloading/use of any Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) to include ATV, UTV, or Golf Carts is prohibited. Quiet Hours are from 10:00 pm to 0600 am. Checkout time is no later than 1:00 pm and check-in time is 2:00 pm.

Directions:

Physical Address: 190 Low Gap Rd., Helen, GA

From Helen, GA, head north on GA-17 N/GA-75 N/N Main St/Unicoi for 1.3 mi.

Turn left onto GA-75 Alt N and go 0.1 mi.

Take the 1st right onto Chattahoochee River Rd. and go 4.4 miles to the Low Gap Campground on the left.

River and Stream Fishing

Low Gap Creek is routinely stocked, and offers many opportunities to catch rainbow, brown, and brook trout.
