Toccoa River Canoe Trail


Area Status: Open

This canoe trail utilizes the Toccoa River from the launch at Deep Hole Recreation Area flowing west and north to its end at the Toccoa River Sandy Bottoms Recreation Area. The entire float from Deep Hole to Sandy Bottoms is 13.8 miles.

Fees:  The day use fee at Deep Hole Recreation Area is $5 per vehicle/per day and Toccoa River Sandy Bottoms day use fee is $3 per vehicle/per day.

Restrictions:

Caution: Fishing, camping and entering onto private land is illegal without landowner permission, as is fishing from the river in a boat, tube, or any other floating device where both sides of the river are privately owned. Suggested take out points are on U.S. Forest Service public lands.

General Information

Directions:

Deep Hole Recreation Area - From Morganton, GA take GA Hwy. 60 south 14.7 miles to Deep Hole Recreation Area entrance on right.

Toccoa River Sandy Bottoms Recreation Area - From Blue Ridge, GA go south on Aska Road 8.5 miles. Turn left, go across Shallowford Bridge, and turn right on Shallowford Bridge Road. Go 1.3 miles to Old Dial Road. Turn right on Old Dial Road, go 0.6 miles to the Sandy Bottom Canoe Take Out on right.

This canoe trail begins on the north bank of the Toccoa River and flows gently west and north in a meandering manner. The final take out is at the Sandy Bottom Canoe Take Out.
