Redlands Recreation Area

Just west of Greensboro,GA, on US 278 on the shore of the local's beloved Lake Oconee, visitors to the Oconee Ranger District find the Redlands Recreation Area. Families can enjoy the picnicking opportunities and acess to Lake Oconee by utilitizing one of three paved  boat ramps in this secluded, yet scenic locale.

Fees Picnic Site/Boat Launch $5/vehicle/day
Permit Info: State of Georgia fishing license and valid boat registration required. Click here for more information for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Open Season: Year round
Restrictions: No camping in recreation area. Boats with heads or toilet facilities are not allowed on Lake Oconee. No Fireworks on the National Forest! Possessing, discharging or using any kind of fireworks or other pyrotecnic or explosive device. 36 CFR 261.52 (f)
Closest Towns: The nearest town is approximately 5 miles, or 10 minutes, east in Greensboro, GA.  Here visitors will find restaurants, grocery stores, motels, etc.

Passes: Annual Forest Pass: This pass sells for $ 25.00 and is valid for US Forest Service boat ramps and day use areas throughout the Chattahoochee Oconee National Forest. Available at the Oconee National Forest District Office. Located at 1199 Madison Rd. (US 441/129) Eatonton GA. Office Hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12;00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. excluding Holidays.

General Information


From I-20 exit 130 Greensboro, GA, head northeast on GA-44 for 2.7 miles to downtown Greensboro,GA. Turn left onto W. Broad St. and go .3 miles, keep left at the fork onto US-278 go 5.0 miles to the entrance to Redlands Recreation Area on the left.


The large paved parking can accomodate vehicles and trailers of any size.
