Madera Nature #88

Starting at the Proctor Picnic Area and Trailhead the Madera Nature Trail #88 travels .75 miles to the Whitehouse Picnic Area, 1.23 miles to the Madera Picnic Area, 1.46 miles to the Santa Rita Lodge, and terminates at 1.72 miles at the Amphitheater. The first tenth of a mile is on a paved flat ADA accessible trail, but once it crosses Proctor Road the trail becomes narrow and asphalt. There are sections along the nature trail that are dirt, rocks, and even stairs to a bridge and over the creek. Two loops Madera Trail #88A and Madera Trail #88B are available as alternate paths prior to Whitehouse Picnic Area that you can take should you choose to make this a loop hike.
Most visitors like to create an easy 1.3 mile, 177 foot elevation gain, loop from the Proctor Picnic Area to the Whitehouse Picnic Area, including both of the side loops. Beyond the Amphitheater, the trail continues for 1.75 miles to the Mount Wrightson Picnic Area and Trailhead. This segment of trail gains nearly 1,000 feet of elevation and offers excellent views.
This is a great family hike with lots of informational signs and beautiful scenery.
