Wyeth Trail (#411)

Wyeth Trailhead.

Hikers will find delightful views and majestic old growth Douglas firs along this trail through the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness. It can be combined with a number of other trails for a backpacking a long loop, and serves as the end of the Gorge Trail #400.

Beginning in Wyeth Campground in the Columbia River Gorge, this 7.3-mile trail enters Mark O Hatfield Wilderness at about mile 1.0 south and continues within the National Scenic Area's boundaries for the first 5.0 miles before crossing the boundary into Mt. Hood National Forest and connecting with a number of other trails.

To the east, Mount Defiance Trail (#413) skirts the edge of the wilderness boundary before heading back into the National Scenic Area and down to the trailhead which connects with the HCRH - Mitchell Creek segment. To the west, it  and ends past North Lake, at the Mount Defiance South Trailhead

Several nice fishing spots can be found along the trail.

Current Conditions: Closed, except a small segment of Wyeth Trail that connects to Gorge #400.
Fees $5 fee/vehicle/day required or applicable federal Recreation Pass. From May to October, envelopes are available at the trailhead but the fee must be paid at Wyeth Campground.

  • Fires not allowed within 200 feet of trail.

Directions:

From Portland, OR: Travel east on Interstate 84 to Wyeth exit #51. Turn right at the stop sign at the end of the off ramp and another right onto Wyeth Road.  Travel about 1/4 mile on Wyeth Road. Turn left into the campground and stay right past the first two campground loop roads to the Wyeth Trailhead.

From Hood River, OR: Travel west on Interstate 84 to Wyeth exit #51. Turn right at the stop sign at the end of the off ramp and another right onto Wyeth Road.  Travel about 1/4 mile on Wyeth Road. Turn left into the campground and stay right past the first two campground loop roads to the Wyeth Trailhead.
