Mesa Falls Scenic Highway

Area Status: Closed

The Mesa Falls Scenic Byway takes you to two of the last undisturbed waterfalls in the West. Upper and Lower Mesa Falls are the last major falls in Idaho that have not been used for irrigation or hydroelectric projects. They offer spectacular views in a beautiful forest setting. The upper waterfall at the Mesa Falls Visitor Center has been developed with paths and viewing areas and is easily accessible to all. The best view is from Grandview Campground and Overlook.

Mesa Falls Highway (Hwy 47) is closed from the first plowable snowfall in the fall at Bear Gluch parking area.  The highway is maintained and plowed by the Idaho Transportation Dept. (ITD). Additionally, Hwy. 47 is generally not plowed open until Mid-May of each year, depending on conditions.
