Claylick Boat-in Campground

Claylick Boat-in Campground, located on Cumberland Ranger District, has 13 primitive campsites on Cave Run Lake. The campground must be entered by boat or by walking in from the nearby Claylick Boat Ramp parking lot. The walk is approximately 1/2-mile. Boat moorings are available at the campground for those who boat in. If you park at Claylick Boat Ramp and walk in, you will need to purchase a pass to display in your vehicle. The campground is a U.S. Fee area, and visitors pay on site.

The campground is located on the Cumberland Ranger District, Daniel Boone National Forest. Cave Run Lake is widely known for its scenic beauty and varied outdoor recreation opportunities. The lake is also the home of Kentucky's state record muskie.This 8,270-acre lake is jointly operated and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Forest Service. 

You must comply with all regulations established by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources concerning fishing, boating and waterway safety laws. Licenses and regulation guides are available at most retail stores.

  • 3rd Friday in April through 1st Sunday in September: $15 single site/$20 double site.
  • 1st Monday in September through 3rd Friday in April: $10 single site/$14 double site.
Note: In addition to the camping fee, you must purchase a parking pass if you park at the boat ramp.
Permit Info: A Special Use Permit is required for commercial activities (for example: fishing tournaments, rental of boats, trail rides, races, etc). A permit is also required for all noncommercial group uses involving more than 75 people.
Usage: Light
Restrictions:  Food and trash storage is mandatory, to reduce odors that attract bears. Unless cooking or eating, store your food and trash inside a hardtop vehicle, the trunk of a car or a bear-resistant container.  (Order DB-02-15)

Alcohol use is prohibited on national forest land and Kentucky lakes and waterways. (KRS 222.202)

No fires outside of a fire ring provided by the Forest Service or outside of a stove, grill or fireplace. (36 CFR 261.16)

Campfire must be DEAD OUT before leaving. (36 CFR 261.5) You will be held liable for suppression costs if your campfire starts a wildfire.

The following are prohibited:

  • Failing to dispose of all garbage, including any paper, can, bottle, sewage, waste water or material, or rubbish either by removal from the site or area, or by depositing it into receptacles or at places provided for such purposes. (36 CFR 261.11)
  • Dumping of any refuse, debris, trash or litter brought as such from private property. (36 CFR 261.11)
  • Camping or maintaining a campsite for more than 14 consecutive days without having first terminated occupancy of that campground for a minimum of 10 days within a 31 day time frame. (Order DB-01-15) 
  • Entering or remaining in a designated campground between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. except for persons occupying the campsite. (Order DB-01-15)
  • Failing to remove all camping equipment or personal property when vacating the site. 36 CFR 261.16 (f).
  • Occupying any portion of the site for other than recreation purposes. 36 CFR 261.16 (a).
  • Placing, maintaining, or using camping equipment except in a place specifically designated or provided for such equipment. 36 CFR 261.16 (g).
  • Leaving camping equipment unattended for more than 24 hours without permission. 36 CFR 261.16 (i).
  • Failing to have at least one person occupy a camping area during the first night after camping equipment has been set up. 36 CFR 261.16 (h).

General Information

Directions:

From I-64, take exit 133 and go south on KY 801. In 13.7 miles, 801 merges directly onto KY 1274. After another 1.9 miles, turn right onto Forest Service Road 968 (Claylick Road). A vehicle parking area is located on the left. The Claylick Boat Ramp is located at the end of the road.
