Auxier Branch Trail #203

Area Status: Open

Courthouse RockAuxier Branch Trail #203 connects Double Arch Trail #201 and Courthouse Rock Trail #202. The trail leaves Double Arch and extends through a wooded canyon to the base of Courthouse Rock. From spring to fall, wildflowers and ferns line the trail among tall poplars and beech trees. Towering cliffs provide an added attraction along the trail. This trail is located in the Red River Gorge on Cumberland District of the Daniel Boone National Forest.

The Red River Gorge Geological Area has more than 100 natural arches, the greatest concentration of arches east of the Rocky Mountains.  

Trailhead: This trail is accessed by hiking along Double Arch Trail or Courthouse Rock Trail.

Passes: No fee for trail use. All vehicles on KY 15 or in the Red River Gorge and Indian Creek area north of KY 15 must display a recreation permit for backcountry camping between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. $5/day; $7/3 days; $50/annual pass. Recreation Passes and Permits

General Information


Traveling east on the Mountain Parkway, take exit 33 at Slade. Turn left to KY 15. Turn right on 15 and travel east 3.2 miles to Tunnel Ridge Road on the left. Follow Tunnel Ridge Road about 3 miles to its terminus at the Auxier Ridge parking area. Hike either the Double Arch Trail or the Courthouse Rock Trail to the junction with Auxier Branch Trail.


Parking is available at the Auxier Ridge Trailhead parking area.
