Area Status: Open

Sheltowee Trace Turkey Foot Section 19 of the Sheltow ee Trace is located on London Ranger District and begins at the intersection of Forest Service Road 3047 and Hale Ridge Road. The trail turns south and makes its way downhill toward Cooperas Cave Branch. It winds along the headwaters of the creek and comes out on Hale Ridge Road near KY 587. The trail follows 587 for 0.5-mile and then turns south onto a short section of old dirt road, crossing Forest Service Road 3022 before entering the woods.

The next 7.2 miles of trail are located in a remote area above War Fork Creek. A seasonal waterfall occurs near the beginning.

The next portion of trail is mostly perched on benches above the creek and provides easy walking. Some switchbacks and hills occur where side drainages are crossed.

The trail eventually parallels Forest Service Road 345, alternating from the east and west side of the road. At the end of this section, a connecting trail (100B) leads a short distance south to Turkey Foot Campground.

The trail continues west for 3 miles before ascending the Middle Fork drainage and intersecting with Forest Service Road 376.

The connector trail 100B and the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail from Turkey Foot Campground to Forest Service Road 376 is open to motorcycles and off-highway vehicles less than 50" wide.

Note: The entering of caves in the Daniel Boone National Forest is currently prohibited due to white-nose syndrome, a disease adversely affecting bats in the eastern United States.

Trail Connections:

  • Sheltowee Trace Section 18 ( 8 miles) and Section 20 (9 miles)
  • Sheltowee Connector Trail (100B) (0.25-mile)
