Section 37 Sheltowee Trace Trail #100

Area Status: Open

Section 37 of the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail on Stearns District begins at the Peter's Mountain Trailhead. The trail has an almost constant descent and crosses Mark Branch 17 times. The scenic Mark Branch Falls is an 80-foot high waterfall.

To reach Hemlock Grove Picnic Area and Forest Service Road 137, you must ford Rock Creek. If you are looking for an alternative route, Mark Branch and Gobblers Arch trails form loops for hiking from either Peter's Mountain Trailhead or Hemlock Grove Picnic Area.

General Information


Hemlock Grove Picnic Area: From south of Whitley City follow KY 92 west to Yamacraw Bridge; turn left just past the bridge onto KY 1363. Go 11.4 miles to the end of the blacktop and turn right onto Forest Service Road 564; go 1.2 miles. Turn left onto Forest Service Road 137; go 2.6 miles.

Parking is available at Peters Mountain Trailhead and Hemlock Grove Picnic area.
