Lake Cumberland

As part of the Cumberland River, several boat ramps on national forest land provide access to Lake Cumberland, including Rockcastle Boat Ramp. This lake is a favorite destination for tourists from miles around. The lake provides excellent opportunities for boating, swimming, skiing, fishing and other water sport activities.

The development of Lake Cumberland was authorized under the Flood Control Act of 1938 and the River and Harbor Act of 1946. The project was designed and supervised by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District. The dam and powerhouse were completed in 1952.
