Crane Prairie Campsite

This is a large campground with multiple camping loops on the east shore of the Crane Prairie Reservoir and offers outstanding fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities. Crane Prairie campsites are right on the water or within a minute or two walk. Crane Prairie Reservoir is managed in partnership with the Bureau of Reclamation.

Operational Hours: 2023 Season - The tent site peninsula will likely remain closed throughout the summer due to a heavy concentration of thatching ant nests while staff continue mitigation efforts to minimize nest sites. Visit Recreation.gov for current operating dates. This campground will be closing at noon on October 19, 2025, and the last night to reserve a campsite is October 18, 2025.

NOTE: Holders of a Golden Age and Golden Access Passports and Senior and Access Passes are entitled to the following discounts on expanded amenity recreation fees: -  A 50 percent discount on the fee for a single camping unit. This discount does not apply to use of a cabin, lookout, double camping unit, triple camping unit, group camping unit, extra vehicle fees, or any additional camping units and separately charged utility, water, hook-up or day use fees.

  • Maximum site spur length is 90 feet.
  • The water system will be turned on in the month of May depending on weather conditions and will be turned off no later than September 30, or upon the campground closing, whichever is earlier, to prevent potential damage from cold temperatures.

From Bend, OR: Travel about 27 miles south on Highway 97, 11 miles west on County Road 43, 5.5 miles west on County Road 42, then 4 miles north on County Road 4270.

Campground Camping

Crane Prairie campsites are right on the water or within a minute or two walk. The roads going through the campground are paved as are many of the site spurs.  There are plenty of modern vault toilets and a pressurized water system. There is a fish cleaning station and boat launch. If you need a shower there is a public shower area at the resort next door along with a small grocery store.
