Jack Lake Trailhead

This trail is located near Jack Lake and provides access to Mt. Jefferson Wilderness via Summit Lake Trail #4014

Recreation Fee Site: Parking at this site requires a recreation pass. Passes are available at this site, but can also be purchased from Forest Service offices or vendors. Please check here for more information about recreation passes and where they can be purchased.

At a Glance

Fees $5/vehicle/day from May 1 through September 30
  • Free PERMIT required Memorial Day through October 31: self-issue wilderness permit available at the trailhead.
  • Motorized and mechanical equipment (including bicycles and drones) are prohibited in the wilderness.
  • Groups must be under 12 people and 12 head of stock.
  • Build campfires at least 100 feet away from water.
  • Pack in / Pack out!
  • “Take only pictures, leave only footprints”—please refrain from cutting, damaging or gathering vegetation or other forest items, i.e. rocks, etc.
  • Please bury human waste 6-8” deep and at least 200’ away from water.
Permit Info: The trail enters Wilderness shortly after leaving the trailhead. Wilderness Permits are required for both day use and overnight stays from Memorial Day Weekend until Oct. 31.  Free permits are self-issued at the trailhead.

General Information


From Sisters, OR take Highway 20 north for approximately 12 miles.  Turn right on Forest Road 12.  Follow Forest Road 12 for 4 miles until it veers left, turns into a dirt road and is now Forest Road 1230.  Take Forest Road 1230 for about 2 miles until it splits, take a left at the 'Y' on to Forest Road 1234.  Follow Forest Road 1234 for about 7 miles until it dead ends at the trailhead.
