Todd Lake Day Use Area/Trailhead

Dogs need to be on-leash in Three Sisters Wilderness on: Green Lakes, Moraine Lakes, South Sister, Soda Creek, Todd Lake and Crater Ditch Trails, from July 15 to September 15. 

Area Status: Closed

Todd Lake is a short walk from the parking area and offers views of Broken Top. This is a popular site for picnicking and fishing during the summer months. There is a small walk-in campground with three sites overlooking the lake.

Access Three Sisters Wilderness with the Todd Lake Trail #34 climbing towards Soda Creek and Broken Top. Wilderness Permits required for the Three Sisters Wilderness (which you enter if you hike the Todd Lake Trail #34). Wilderness permits are required for both day use and overnight stays from this trailhead. See "Permit Info" below for more details.

Todd Lake Loop Trail #34.1 does not require a wilderness permit as the trail does not enter the Three Sisters Wilderness.

Motors are prohibited on Todd Lake.

Recreation Fee Site: Parking at this site requires a recreation pass. Passes are available at this site, but can be purchased from Forest Service offices or vendors. Please check here for more information about recreation passes and where they can be purchased.

Current Conditions: Wilderness permits are not required to access/use Todd Lake. However, permits are required to hike the nearby Todd Lake Trail #34 or if entering the Three Sisters Wilderness.

Restrictions: DO NOT remove frogs or tadpoles from Todd Lake.
  • Todd Lake is home to the Western Toad and Cascades Frog. Both of these species are threatened by loss of wetlands, habitat degredation, and environmental changes.
They are protected by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) and collecting of these species is illegal and punishable with a fine of $1,250. (OAR 635-044-0420) For more info: ODFW Conservation Strategy - Frogs & Toads

Wilderness restrictions apply in the Three Sisters Wilderness.
  • Maps of areas where special restrictions apply: 
  • Motorized and mechanical equipment (including bicycles and drones) are prohibited in the Wilderness
  • Groups must be under 12 people and 12 head of stock
  • Build campfires at least 100 feet away from water
  • Pack in / Pack out!
  • “Take only pictures, leave only footprints” — please refrain from cutting, damaging, or gathering vegetation or other forest items (e.g. rocks, artifacts, etc.)
  • Please bury human waste 6-8 inches deep and at least 200 feet away from water

Directions:

From Bend, OR: Travel 24.0 miles west on Cascade Lakes Highway (46), then 0.5 miles north on Forest Road 4600-370 to Todd Lake trailhead. It is a 1/4 mile hike to the lake.
