Round Lake Trail


From Round Lake Trailhead, the trail climbs westward to the junction with the Summit Lake Trail #4014 at Square Lake within Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. 

The Round Lake Trail enters the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. Wilderness permits are required; see "Permit Info" below.

  • Central Cascades Wilderness Permits are required between the Friday before Memorial Day and the last Friday in September for all overnight use in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness area. Check out for more information or call 1-877-444-6777.
  • Free, unlimited self-issue Wilderness Permits, available at the trailhead, are required between the Friday before Memorial Day and October 31 on this trail for day use (available at trailhead). These permits are used to assist in the management of these areas.
    • The Central Cascades Wilderness Permit is NOT required for day use on this trail.
  • Free, unlimited self-issue Wilderness permit required when visiting the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness between last Friday in September and October 31 for both day use and overnight use (available at trailhead).

Restrictions: Wilderness restrictions apply.
  • Motorized and mechanical equipment (including bicycles and drones) are prohibited in the Wilderness
  • Groups must be under 12 people and 12 head of stock
  • Build campfires at least 100 feet away from water
  • Pack in / Pack out!
  • “Take only pictures, leave only footprints” — please refrain from cutting, damaging, or gathering vegetation or other forest items (e.g. rocks, artifacts, etc.)
  • Please bury human waste 6-8 inches deep and at least 200 feet away from water

Passes: No recreation pass required.

General Information


From Sisters, OR take Highway 20 north for approximately 12 miles.  Turn right on Forest Road 12. In about a mile take a left on Forest Road 1210 and follow to Round Lake. Round Lake trailhead is at the end of 1210-600 spur road near the lake.
