Carson Pass to Lake Winnemucca Trail 18E13

This trail, one of the most popular in the national forest, leads 2.5 miles through open forest and meadow, past some of the best mountain wildflower displays in California in mid-summer.

Permit Info: A Wilderness Permit is required for overnight camping in the Mokelumne Wilderness. Campsites are assigned when you pick up your overnight permit at the Carson Pass Information Station.

Restrictions: Open for hikers and equestrians. Horses must remain on the trail and may not graze in the Carson Pass Management Area. Pets must be leashed. Campfires at not allowed within Carson Pass Management Area. Group size for day use is 12 people. Group size for overnight use is 8 people.

Closest Towns: Kirkwood
Passes: $5 daily pass, $20 annual pass, or federal interagency pass required for parking at Carson Pass trailhead from May 31 to October 31. A Sno-Park permit is required from November 1 to May 30.

The trailhead is a parking lot on the south side of Highway Pass at the Carson Pass Information Center.
