Fremont River Ranger District

Fish Lake is the big draw on the Fremont River Ranger District, offering anglers a chance to catch MacKinaw, splake, rainbow and yellow perch. With three resorts, cabin rentals, and campgrounds, visitors can plan to stay awhile.

Other recreation opportunities include picnicking, hiking, ATV riding, horseback riding, and sightseeing.

The Fremont River Ranger District also administers the Boulder Mountain area and is the gateway to Capital Reef National Park.

The Fishlake National Forest has completed a route designation process as shown on the official Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) dated August 2007.

The State of Utah has a reciprocity ATV/OHV licensing agreement with several other states. This link shows a list of states that do not have a reciprocity agreement with Utah. If your state is listed here you must purchase a "Non-Resident Permit".

OHV Open Area Riding

One open riding area is designated on the Fremont River Ranger District. The area known as Velvet Ridge is located north of the community of Torrey. Open Area Riding Map The area is 189 acres.

The Fish Lake area on the Fremont River Ranger District offers both groomed and non-groomed snowmobile areas around Fish Lake, Johnson Valley Reservoir and Mt. Terrill to the northwest.
