At Alexander Springs Recreation Area, enjoy a shaded campground within an easy walk of the springs swimming and picnic area. This 67-unit campground can accommodate tents and recreation vehicles (up to 35-feet long).

The concessionaire sells a variety of snacks, souvenirs, ice, charcoal, firewood, beach items and personal items. (Please note: No food is cooked on site by the concessionaire).

  • The 67-unit campground can accomodate tents and recreation vehicles up to 35-feet long.
  • Expect full recreation sites during weekends. 
  • Visitors are recommended to arrive early and have back-up plans.
  • Recreation sites may close when maximum capacity is reached.

  • The maximum stay is 14-consecutive days in a 30-day period.
  • Detailed camping regulations are posted and available at the entrance gate house.
  • Electrical, water or sewer hookups are not available; Hot showers and a dump station are provided.

Operational Hours: Alexander Springs Recreation area is open from 8 a.m. to dusk. Campers have 24-hour access to the gates with an access code.

Permit Info: All anglers must have a valid Florida Freshwater Fishing License.

  • All freshwater fishing regulations of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission apply.
  • All Ocala National Forest campgrounds allow pets, but they must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet and are not permitted in designated swimming and picnic areas.
  • There is a maximum stay limit of 14 consecutive days in a 30-day period.

Passes: Ocala National Forest Springs Hopper Pass: This day-use pass is $70 + tax per person and is good for one year from the date of purchase. It provides entrance to recreation areas managed by Adventure Ocala, which includes: Juniper Springs, Alexander Springs, Silver Glen Springs, Clearwater Lake and Wildcat Lake. This pass is available for purchase from Adventure Ocala at Alexander Springs, Juniper Springs and Silver Glen Springs. The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Annual Senior Pass, Lifetime Senior Pass and Access Pass holders receive a 50% discount on the fee for a single campsite occupied by the passholder at the following campgrounds managed by Adventure Ocala:
  • Alexander Springs Campground
  • Clearwater Lake Campground
  • Hopkins Prairie Campground
  • Juniper Springs Campground
Passholders do not receive a discount on the fee for multi-family sites, cabins or group-use areas or any other campsites occuped by those accompanying the passholder. The 50% discount does not include utility, water or hookup fees. Discounts on camping are not available to America the Beautiful or Volunteer Pass holders.

Alexander Springs Recreation Area is located along CR 445 in the northeast corner of Lake County between Astor and Altoona. 

From SR 40 at Astor, take Butler Street to CR 445A, and turn left on CR 445. The recreation area is 5.8 miles south on the right. 

From Altoona, drive north 5.2 miles on SR 19, and turn right on CR 445. Continue another 5.1 miles to the entrance on the left.
