Mill Dam Recreation Area

Area Status: Open

Mill Dam has been a popular destination for generations. In the shade of live oaks overlooking the 168-acre Mill Dam Lake, Mill Dam Recreation Area offers two different experiences.

October 1 -- March 15 is for group camping by reservation only through

March 16 -- September 30 the site is open to daily visitors for picnicking and swimming (no camping/overnight use during these months). Expect crowds on weekends during summer months. 

This recreation site is operated by Adventure Ocala.

Current Conditions: Expect full recreation sites during weekends. Have backup plans. Sites may close when capacity is reached.
Operational Hours: March 16 - September 30: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  October 1 - March 15: Group campground check-in is 3 p.m. / check-out is 11 a.m.

Closest Towns: Head west on SR 40 for groceries, gasoline, and hardware in Forest Corners. If it is open, the small store at Mill Dam Lake may have camping supplies.

Group Camping

Lake and Pond Fishing

Recreation areas with activity Lake and Pond Fishing:
  • Anglers come from all over to enjoy bass fishing on Mill Dam Lake. Access the boat launch before the entrance to the recreation area.
  • Fishing is not permitted from the bank of the recreation area.

  • Under the deep shade of live oaks overlooking Mill Dam Lake is a beautiful spot for a family picnic. Large shelters also make the recreation area ideal for family reunions and other gatherings.

Boating - Motorized

Recreation areas with activity Boating - Motorized:

Head over to the adjacent Mill Dam Boat Ramp to launch motorized boats. 

Boating - Non-Motorized

Recreation areas with activity Boating - Non-Motorized:
  • Canoe or kayak Mill Dam Lake by launching either at the recreation area (which involves a haul or wheel to the beach) or via the adjacent boat launch.


Recreation areas with activity Swimming:
  • Busy during the summer months, the swimming area has a nice beach along Mill Dam Lake and is wheelchair accessible. 


Recreation areas with activity Waterskiing:
  • Waterskiing is popular on Mill Dam Lake. Launch boats at the adjoining boat ramp.
