Trail #107 Sawtooth

Area Status: Unknown

This Trail Open to Hiker and Equestrian Use.

This trail is a former section of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail #2000 which was relocated in the 1970s to skirt the lower west flank Sawtooth Mountain in Indian Heaven Wilderness. The trail climbs to near the top of the mountain providing wonderful views of Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens.

Taking the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail #2000 from the north, the Sawtooth Trail climbs steadily to the base of the 5,353' ridge of Sawtooth Mountain. The trail levels out and then continues on the west side of the summit, staying about 100 feet below the top. The trail offers views of Mt. Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Lone Butte (a volcano core). At the south end of the ridge, the trail drops back down to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail #2000. Sawtooth Mountain is a shield volcano and is one of the most prominent features in the northern part of Indian Heaven Wilderness.

Climbing rocks at Sawtooth is hazardous. Please stay on the trail.
