Trailhead: June Lake
ALERT: Due to the washout on FR 83, access to this trailhead may be challenging. The washout is a mixture of sand and mud with standing and/or active running water, making it difficult for compact cars to cross. It is strongly recommended that you use vehicles with 4x4 and high clearance to avoid getting stuck in the sand and mud mixture. We do not have an estimated time of when the road will be repaired.
Provides access to: June Lake Trail #216B. June Lake Trail accesses the Loowit Trail #216 south of Mount St Helens. Small parking lot. The trailhead is Day Use only. There is no overnight parking allowed at June Lake Trailhead.

A washout occurred on Forest Road 83 in October 2023 and may make it difficult to get to June Lake Trailhead. 4x4 and high clearance strongly recommended due to deep flowing water across a mixture of sand and mud. It is very easy to get stuck in this mixture. Drive at your own risk. Signage warning of this washout is also posted before the washout. General Information
Directions:From Cougar, WA drive east for about 13 miles on State Route 503. Take a left on Forest Road 83 and travel approximately 7 miles to the turn off to June Lake Trailhead. Turn left and follow road to the parking area.
During the winter and early spring Forest Road 83 is gated at the Sno-Park.
